Staff Handle Name?

RoarAsh

What is your position on the Legends Staff?

Project Admin

What do you do for the project SWG Legends?

What do I do for SWG:Legends? That’s kind of a hard question when you are answering yourself. First and foremost, I oversee the in-game events that we host across the project and assist with coordinating them. I also oversee the social media platforms for the project which the members of the Event & Social Media team assist with posting new content for. I’m quite often stuck looking at a calendar and seeing what important days within the Star Wars universe are coming up. Some people think having the title of project admin means I’m a developer/server developer, which I’m not.

How did you come to possess these skills, education or self taught?

The in-game events are really just a case of playing around and figuring out what works, and what doesn’t. SWG is not like modern games which have countless live-event capabilities. As for social media I’ve always liked interacting with people via social media, in the past I used to help moderate a Facebook page which has 32 million followers. (I’m sure by now she has many more!) I paid out of my own money to do an online course in social media management & marketing. That’s been really useful with the project and the way we engage with the community.

Describe your typical day supporting Legends.

I normally wake up first thing in the morning and get ready for work (my eyes are always half closed!) I check my Discord App on my phone which normally has plenty of DM’s for me to reply to, we are talking over 10 average. I try and respond to the ones which are more a priority to deal with before leaving for work. Some of the DM’s can be a range of things including Media inquiries with the project, players wanting account approval or other staff members trying to reach out.

What do you think your greatest contribution has been to Legends?

I genuinely like seeing players having fun the project, I’d like to think that I’ve managed to bridge bringing players together in our galaxy and making it more inclusive for everyone. Sometimes I get messages from players that have come across an old friend at an in-game event that we’ve hosted, or they’ve seen someone posting on our Facebook page that used to be in their guild during the live version of the game and are now reunited, when these moments happen it makes me feel larger than life and accomplished. I sometimes have to pinch myself at how much the project is loved by the community, It hits me sometimes and I think WOW after almost 4 years here we are; still going. Ultimately, I think when you are part of a project like this you have to genuinely love what you do in order to create a virtual online home for Star Wars Galaxies fans.

What would the other staff at Legends say to this; “Describe (Staff Member)".

I dont' know what they would say

What they actually said:

''As I have come to know him over these years, I can say that Ash is one of the most authentically friendly, bubbly, thoughtful, kind and forgiving people I have ever known. It is a privilege to know and work with him. His dedication to the project is a gift to this community.'' -Revtz

“RoarAsh has a heart of gold. He cares about the game, the players and the staff all equally. He is fair and easy to talk to!” -Shrick

“Quite possibly one of the sweetest, most genuine people I have met. He handles everything in stride, and is just has the best demeanor when dealing with everyone.” -Keerf

" " -Alky

"He brings incredible dedication, personality and passion to the team. He's works to stay close to all of us on the team and puts the project in front of anything else and a lot of people could take a play from his play book. I love Ash and have even gone to him about personal things in my life and will continue to stand behind him as a leader." -Damo

“Ash is a leader. Someone dedicated to Star Wars Galaxies 100%. Someone who is passionate about making this game a living, breathing world. And most importantly: an amazing friend.” -Reign

"I would say Ash is one of the most enthusiastically engaged members of the staff; he pours his heart and soul into upholding the SWG Legends branding as something far more than 'just another emulator.' If he had one weakness, it would be his fondness for cuddly creatures on exotic worlds that often stays my hand and stunts my paycheck from the guild—but I digress—RoarAsh is great people; he is as much SWGLegends as the name itself!" -Jarek

“Ash is a really friendly and helpful guy that always has time and a word over for everyone. His social skills are amazing and so is the work he does for this project. He convinced me to come to Legends back in 2016 and remains one of the reasons I enjoy it so much here.” -Atheenah

"RoarAsh is always so calm, cool and collected. He's always been a pleasure working to work with. Love his humor. So glad to be working with him on the project" -Kubre

“It’s impossible to describe Ash in only so many words. He’s pure energy and knows exactly how to channel that energy to SWG (or anything he’s involved in really!) in unique ways that never fail to get people’s attention. He loves ALL Star Wars and really understands how it connects everyone across all ages. He’s the heart of the Events Team, a great mentor, and the biggest lover of porgs I know. Where this project has come from, where it is now, and where it can still go should make us all feel a little more hopeful and optimistic with Ash being part of its direction. Britney would be proud!” -Walmahrt

"Ash is one of the most dedicated people I have ever met. He places the well being of the entire community as his primary commitment, and ensures that the rest of us are doing the same. He keeps the community engaged on multiple platforms, yet still has time to play the game and just chat with players. He is driven, he is passionate, and he takes his roles and responsibilities seriously. It's been a pleasure working with you the last couple years...and here's to a couple more :D!!!! -Lokee

What has been the most difficult thing you’ve done supporting Legends?

I remember when I joined the project back in 2016, the project was in a very different place. People told me I was wasting my time for contributing to this “thing” but I was really determined to try and push it forwards in the ways that I could. (I knew what the project meant to some players) In those days it was fair to say the reputation of the project wasn’t very good; it had teething problems establishing a settled and well-working team and occasionally the drama overtook the momentum and development of the project Itself. It was hard for me to think of ways of how we could make the project/game appeal to a newer generation of Star Wars fans as well as the veterans of Star Wars Galaxies. So in short that is probably the hardest thing, changing the way the project presented Itself. Hopefully you can agree we are far more communicative with the community than we were in 2016..

How often do you actually get to play SWG?

I always make “Me” time with the project. Normally once a week or so I’ll pop in-game on my own character and try and get into some Heroic Instances or something like that.

What is your favorite thing to do in game?

You could say this answer is a bit predictable, my favorite thing to do as a player is host events. I’ve always loved bringing people together over the one common interest that we share; Star Wars Galaxies & and a love of the Star Wars universe that George Lucas crafted from his imagination.

When did you start playing SWG, and describe that experience?
I started playing SWG in November 2004. I remember finding out about the game from a TV advert, I remember being fascinated. I did something really bad and stole my dad's credit card from his wallet and paying for five accounts with it. The result wasn't good when being like 13 years old; I think I was grounded for like 2 weeks and the computer password was changed! (It’s a hard life as a teenager, isn't it?!)

I originally started playing on Bloodfin but then realized that I needed to be around European players to get the most out of the game so I then transferred to Europe-Chimaera. Throughout all of my time in Star Wars Galaxies including here, the thing that has always pulled through is the great friendships you make along the journey.

I’ve always been a big fan of the NGE, love it or hate it. I am happy to say I’ve always loved it! Towards the end of the game it was a really solid experience.
