Community update - Credit selling

$
0
0

Dear Legends,

As previously announced it has recently come to our attention that there are a number of accounts involved in buying and selling in game credits for real life money. This harms the game in more ways than one but not least the economy. At this time the Legends team has taken action against many accounts and we will continue to track transactions in the logs to ensure we eradicate credit selling and protect the server and community.

The number of accounts involved in this business is quite large and whilst we’ve taken action against the most prolific offenders there are still others that we have not yet approached. We have decided it would be fair to offer an amnesty to those players that may have bought or sold a small number of credits either in the past or more recently and allow them to provide information to help catch the main ring leaders. If you do so then no action will be taken against your accounts.

If anyone approaches you with an offer for your credits or you have any other information that may be relevant then please don’t hesitate to let a member of staff know.

May the force be with you,

-SWG: Legends Staff

*Friday Feature- Creating a BANG!*

Hey everybody!

So today the Friday Feature will look at something that the community asks me about during in-game events... Firework shows!

Fireworks shows are a fun addition to any in-game celebration, bringing a special and iconic feel to weddings, roleplay, and gatherings of all kinds! To help you make a great impression at your next event or guild party, here some tips for shooting off Fireworks and setting up your own shows! Don’t worry, it can be done without too much hard work!

There are eight Fireworks available to use for fun or at your next celebration. Anyone can purchase Fireworks in-game on the bazaar (under the category Generic>Fireworks) or visit their friendly neighborhood Trader and ask to have some crafted. Exclusive Fireworks create Rebel or Imperial Insignia’s in the sky - perfect for GCW moments of glory - and are available for purchase at the respective faction vendors during Empire/Remembrance Day.

All types of Traders are able to craft Fireworks as soon as they log in, even for the first time. Below are the crafting requirements for making Fireworks.

Firework or Show Package resource requirements:
6 units of Mineral for the Canister
4 units of Chemical for the Booster Charge
2 units of Chemical for the Burster Charge
2 units of Gas for the Effect-Generator

There is 8 different types of Fireworks you are able to craft.

Hidden Fact
The Overall Quality of the resources determines the number of charges in each Firework. There is a debate on whether or not the resource quality affects the craft, but we checked with our people (thanks, insert name here), and it does! So, with experimentation and better resources, you can make each Firework have more uses.

If you want to create your own custom Firework show. Simply drag the Fireworks from your inventory into your toolbar and head 100-150 meters away from the crowd (safety first, people), hit those buttons, and watch the magic happen!

(Above a Firework Display on Naboo)

Fireworks Show Packages

Fireworks can certainly be used one at a time but you can also combine the eight types of fireworks by crafting Show Packages. Show Packages make it easy to set off grand displays and are available from any Trader.

Setting up your Firework Show Package
All you need to do is:

• Have the Show Package and the individual fireworks in your inventory (uncrated).
• Right click on the Show Package and - from the radial menu - mouse over “Show Data.”
• Next, select “Add Event” to add your individual fireworks to the show package, which will create a pop-up window

• After that, you will get a popup window.
• In the pop-up window, you may add fireworks from your inventory to add to the show.

This will add one charge of the firework to your show. You may also Remove Events from the show through the radial menu.

Everyone also has even more options under Show Data to arrange and rearrange the order of the fireworks ( Modify Events ) in their Show Package.

Be sure to play around with the different delays and effects to really make an impressive display.

The maximum delay is 100 seconds the minimum is 0 (.10 seconds).

Below you can see the effect of each Firework.

Unearthly adventurers,

It’s about to get a whole lot spookier around the galaxy in the next few weeks. You never know what’s going to pop up from underneath your feet. That’s right, this year’s Galactic Moon Festival event is starting today on Friday, 13th October with a DOUBLE XP event until Monday 16th October! The GMF period will end on November 13th, you can take part in the spine-chilling festivities planned around the galaxy and obtain those Galactic Moon Festival Tokens to purchase those favorite Galactic Moon Festival goodies and new & updated rewards!

The Galactic Moon Festival isn’t the only thing going on during the ghoulish month of October. We wanted to make the Galactic Moon Festival extra spooktacular this year, and have constructed a haunted house which you will be able to explore. But watch out and don’t get covered in that nasty slime! The haunted house will also function as a location for pop-up festivities to take place such as trivia events, spookiest dressed competitions, and deadly PvE events! By participating in these events, you will have a chance to obtain an exclusive Guise of Fire (cosmetic eyewear) or an arcade gaming machine! The location of the haunted house will be revealed on Monday 16th November!

But wait, there’s more! Don’t miss out on the Haunted Maze! But be careful, deadly tormented figures have been spotted running around and have lost all sanity. They wish to cause all travellers deadly harm. (Event announcement will be made when available)

Below you will find a gameplay guide to the Galactic Moon Festival! Trick or treat?

This year Jabba the Hutt (yes, that dirty slime ball) has decided to throw the annual Galactic Moon Festival once more to all citizens of Omega. So equip your holoshroud and apply your favorite costumes and come Trick or Treating with us! It’s bound to be a spooktacular experience.

An infected Rancor rampages Mos Eisley infectecting festival celebrants.

In order to participate in what is sure to be the ghoulest occasion this year, all citizens have to do is visit the Galactic Moon Festival Organizers who can be found outside of the Moenia and Mos Eisley Starport. Just copy and paste “/way Tatooine 3523 -4805 GMF”and “/way Naboo 4790 -4776 GMF” into the game to get started.).

At these locations, citizens can obtain a costume to use for trick or treating, purchase special Galactic Moon Festival items, and find out more about the festival.

So what costume will I be wearing?

You will randomly be given a custome upon speaking to Z’ozpheratu the Festival Organizer. Below you will see a list of the available costumes:

  • Hutt
  • Jawa
  • Salacious Crumb
  • Toydarion
  • Droideka

How do I gain Galactic Moon Festival Tokens?

Approach any unfortunate beings hanging around Mos Eisley or Moenia and /say "Trick or treat!" to them! If your greeting isn't frightful enough, you may want to try using a Trick or Treat device (Which is purchased from the GMF vendor!) The person on the receiving end of your trick will be sorry they didn't like your costume, that's for sure especially if you are playing as a Hutt!

Please note if you are trick or treating in other locations beside Mos Eisley or Moenia you will be unable to interact with those NPC’s as they are not in the halloween mood!

Here are some of the rewards available this year.

A Galactic Moon Festival Backpack available to purchase for 700 GMF tokens

A book which may be useful to an entertainer

A Galactic Moon Festival Painting

Have fun Trick or Treating this year!

*Friday Feature- Setting a Trend*

Hey everyone!

This week in our Friday feature we will be taking a closer look at the appearance tab system!

So what is the appearance tab?

The Appearance window is a UI system that allows a player to equip a second set of armor, clothes, and jewelry as visible items that will not affect your character's stats. You can create a look unique to your character without having to worry about being ineffective in combat, crafting, or any other game style you enjoy. Stand out from the crowd with the new Appearance window. Our Halloween party is tomorrow, the perfect occasion to try out the appearance tab system! https://swglegends.com/forums/showth...val-BOO-Bash!*

(Me with my armor equipped!)

Using the Appearance Window

The Appearance feature is very simple and easy to use. All characters now have an Appearance Inventory. This inventory mimics the normal slots on your character where worn items would go. Just like how your character has a shoulder slot, the Appearance Inventory has a shoulder slot as well.

By using the "Equip Appearance" option from the radial menu on an item, or simply dragging an item onto the character in the Appearance window, you can move items into your appearance inventory.

Once an item is in your appearance inventory, the system automatically checks to see if you have an item normally equipped in that slot on your character. If so, the original armor or clothing is hidden and the appearance item is displayed on your character instead.
If you don't like the look you are seeing, drag that item from the Appearance window's character back to your inventory, and it is instantly unequipped.
The only items allowed to be equipped as appearance items are clothing, armor, and jewelry. Appearance items cannot be containers, meaning that any item that holds other items (such as certain bandoliers and backpacks) are not allowed in the Appearance window.

Remember that appearance items have absolutely no effect (positive or negative) on your character's stats and skills. They are simple for looks only, so don't worry about using clothing instead of armor for your appearance items. Try different looks to see what you like best! Remember tomorrow night Jabba is wanting to see those scary looks!

The Appearance Window

To help facilitate the understanding of slots and how to equip and unequip items in general, a character known as the "paper doll" in the Appearance window shows exactly what items are in which slots.

By dragging and dropping items from your inventory to the character in the Appearance window, those items are instantly equipped as appearance items (assuming the slot isn't currently occupied by another appearance item). Items that take up multiple slots, like cloaks and robes, appear in multiple slots on the character.

If you drag an object over the Appearance window, the slots required by that item will be displayed in one of three colors: green if there is no conflict, yellow if you already have an item in that slot and that item will automatically be removed for you if you try to equip the dragged object, or red if you already have an item equipped to that slot and the item will NOT be automatically removed for you. Items that are highlighted in red must be removed before you can equip an item in those slots.

If you drop the item into the Appearance window when one or more slots is already used, the system will tell you exactly what items are preventing you from equipping that item. Until you remove those items, you will not be able to equip that particular item into the Appearance Inventory.
The Appearance window isn't strictly for equipping appearance items. By checking the checkbox named "Show Equipped Items", you can see what "normal" items you currently have equipped on your character. By dragging and dropping those items to and from your inventory, you can equip and unequip those items as well. So the Appearance window not only helps you manage appearance items, but normal equipped items as well.

Appearance Window Showing Normal Items

The Examine Window
With the extensive amount of customization that the Appearance window offers, players who rely on the visual information of a target's armor are not left out in the cold with this update. The Examine window now has a checkbox option whenever you view another player. This option will show you the true armor that a player is wearing by hiding all their appearance items in that window. They will, however, still appear with all their appearance items in the world.
An option to turn this behavior on by default is also available so you don't have to constantly examine someone and check that box.

The Appearance window is a great feature within Star Wars Galaxies and we can't wait to see all the outfits people come up with tomorrow night!

May the style be with you!

*Friday Feature- Becoming a Contributor*

Hey everyone,

Have you ever wanted to share your knowledge & love of Star Wars Galaxies to support SWG:Legends? Are you an individual with a lot of time online and wanting to help out? Well, In this Friday feature we will be taking a closer look at how you - yes, you - can help us as a project contributor!

Firstly, let’s talk a little bit of how SWG:Legends is managed. The team is divided into five teams each which specialise into different areas of the project. The departments are as follows.

  • Admin - The project admins are responsible for ensuring that the services of the project are maintained and functioning correctly. They oversee the project, its finances and ensure the game accounts/server hardware is working as intended. Their main focus is to keep the project up and running.
  • QA (Quality Assurance) - This department ensures that any technical issues are identified and resolved correctly. For example that gameplay bugs are isolated and tracked. QA also test upcoming game updates which are pushed from the Development team. QA spend a lot of time on our test server Alpha and local environments exploring potential issues which may be affecting the gameplay experience. If any of you have submitted an annoying bug in the past to Mantis (Insert link) it is the QA team which investigate/replicate these issues and then relay this information back to the development team. QA members are technical minded and think out of the box to identify issues. They have a brought knowledge of the game content and use various sources to find the solutions needed.
  • CSR (Customer Service Representative) - The CSR team is the heart of the project and assist you daily with a range of issues you may experience while in-game. Have you ever deleted an item that you love by mistake? The CSR team are responsible for dealing with a range of in-game issues that you may experience. Nobody likes being stuck on the Ryatt Trail on Kashyyyk, right? CSR members spend a lot of time in-game and on Discord, not to mention they also spend a lot of time in the ticket section of the SWG:Legends forums working daily to resolve those little annoying gameplay issues you might be facing. CSR’s are outstanding at communicating and enjoy working as a team. CSR’s are also great listeners. CSR’s also enjoy problem solving.
  • Dev (Development Team) - The Dev team spend a great deal of time reading the forum to gauge feedback from the community. The development team follow a roadmap of development goals which they strive to achieve. Dev’s are hard working, creative individuals that enjoy bringing creations into the game. Developers have deep knowledge of the game and understand different types of computer programming languages such as Java/C#/C++/Python/PHP Developers are great at technical issues and with creating the things players envision during their discussions.
  • Event & Social Media (Event Team) - The Event and Social Media team are a group of people that make sure the project is as fun and interactive as possible, they provide a range of community content such as in-game events, forum contests, friday features, player spotlights. They also manage project social media platforms such as the facebook page (Insert link) Event & Social members are outstanding at communicating, creative & ambitious and very dedicated to making the SWG:Legends experience as FUN as possible for the whole community.

I’m interested in being a contributor. What’s next?

We are always on the lookout for able community member who can share their knowledge and time to enable us to make progress.
In particular we are searching for contributors for the following tasks:

  • Event Helper: Helping with setting up events or writing some articles for the forum and moderating the social media platform.
  • Developer: Contribute to the changes we want to make ingame to make this server as much “home” as possible.
  • Graphics Designer: Are you the creative type who is good with Adobe Photoshop & Fireworks? We are always looking for new graphics for the homepage for announcements or even for ingame graphics!
  • Video Editor: We are always on the lookout for talented video editors who can creative unique looking trailers, gameplay videos and promotion assets.
  • Content Designer: Are you able to formulate game and quest ideas so that development can implement them? Are you knowledgeable of all the ingame mechanisms and can think of ways to enhance the game so we can create an even greater experience?

If you have read the paragraph above and think you have some of those listed qualities and skills then you can become a contributor! Simply reply to this forum post and state what you are interested in supporting and we can contact you with more information and potentially have an informal chat.

How is a staff role different to a contributor?

A contributor is able to contribute any work to the project without putting a specified amount of hours into the project. Currently, all staff members on the project put a minimum of 10 hours per week into the project being a contributor gives you the flexibility with time commitments. If you do wish to become a staff member becoming a contributor is a great way to get to know us.

What’s expected?

Sometimes as a contributor you might be working on things which aren’t common knowledge to the general player base, we will need you sometimes to keep things to yourself to not spoil a surprise. We expect contributors to communicate with us regularly in our contributors Discord channel.

I hope you enjoyed reading more about the contributor role!

May the force be with you, as always.
